Only 3 hours from DC on the new "Corridor H", this lovely home is situated in the wonderful Black Bear Resort, a true four season resort with outdoor heated pool, tennis, volleyball, mini-golf, fishing, a lodge, kids activity area, and outdoor fire pits. Close to Timberline Ski Resort, and all the Canaan Valley wilderness areas, including the National Wildlife Refuge, Blackwater Falls State Park, the Dolly Sods Wilderness area, the Monongahela State Forest, and the Canaan Valley State Park. That's over 30,000 acres of private playground!
Ski or snowboard Timberline, the highest ski resort in the Mid-Atlantic, with the most "vertical", most fresh snow at 200 inches pa, and the longest run! For the less adventurous, there is Canaan Valley Resort, with the cheapest ski and gear packages around, plus tubing and ice skating. Try White Grass Ski Touring Center for the cross country or snow shoeing with 20 miles of groomed trails, and another 20 of wilderness trails high in the Dolly Sods. Blackwater Falls also has 10 miles of trails and North America's longest sled run at 1400 feet.
For other seasons, there are over 300 hiking trails nearby, including the Allegheny Highland Trail and the "Heart of the Highlands Trail", and plenty of mountain biking. Hunting, fishing stocked rivers and dams, trap shooting, swimming, horse riding, golfing, rock climbing, zip lining, caving and spelunking, bunjee, rafting and kayaking, and scenic train journeys.
Our pet friendly cabin is fully equipped with a BBQ, wood burning fireplace, full kitchen, large Jacuzzi, washer/dryer all linens, satellite TV, WiFi, and brilliant views south across the National Wildlife Refuge to the Dolly Sods and Timberline. There is a full bed in the main bedroom and also upstairs in the "loft" bedroom, plus bunks and a pullout in the loft.
Almost devoid of light pollution, you will see the stars like you have never seen them before.
You can even do full moon cross country tours!
Nearby are the towns of Davis and Thomas, with farm to store and farm to table shops and restaurants, four local micro brewers and a distillery, and the Purple Fiddle pub, a worthwhile stop on the Mountain Music Trail.
There are also antique stores, a fabulous coffee shop, the Highland Artists Gallery plus other art galleries, bike, ski and snowboard rental and sale.
Further afield you will find the Cheat River for water activities, Seneca Rocks and Nelson Rocks for climbing and zip lining, and the historic Elkins and Durbin and Greenbrier railways.
You won't find a more restful and beautiful location within 3 hours of Washington DC.
